George Strait proved in 1992 his talents extended beyond being a country music artist, when he starred in the hit movie, 'Pure Country.'
Strait starred as Dusty Chandler in 'Pure Country,' a super star in the country music world, but still searching for something more. The character pushes on in his search for a real music style as well as a real romance. The country romance sparks between Dusty Chandler and Harley Tucker, played by actress Isabel Glasser. 'Pure Country' captured the hearts of many.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, George Strait has agreed to star in the follow-up to 'Pure Country," in the upcoming film, 'A Pure Country Gift.' The film will be directed by Chris Cain, who also directed the first film. He co-wrote the screenplay with his son, actor Dean Cain, who also has a role in the film. With a completely different story line, this movie is about three angels who give the gift of a beautiful singing voice to a baby girl. As she gets older she breaks some of the angels' rules and they take away her singing voice.
Dean Cain Co-Wrote the Inspirational Pure Country II Sunday December 12, 2010
Categories: Inspiring Celebrities, Watch it this Weekend Actor Dean Cain stopped by the Beliefnet offices recently to tell us about a couple of movies he's been working on: The Way Home and Pure Country II: The Gift.
He is a lovely person. Very kind and caring, devoted to his ten year old son, and also to helping kids around the world through Feed the Children and other humanitarian organizations. We found him to be a truly super guy.
You can read my full interview with Dean on Beliefnet.com. This post is about a special project that he wanted me to share with Beliefnetters.
Pure Country II is a story that he co-wrote with his father, director Christopher Cain. It is about a young girl who is given the gift of true talent and to maintain her special gift and to have fame, she must follow three rules. He explains the story.
"So the angels are up in heaven and they've got this wonderful gift. It's this great big voice and they find the right person to send it to. It goes into the mouth of this little baby girl who's mother dies during childbirth."
"She's raised by her aunt Ella, in sort of the gospel south. She's this little blond girl raised by her African American aunt Ella so she sticks out in this full gospel choir singing with this great big voice."
"Ella keeps repeating a mantra to her, to live her life a certain way which is never lie, always be fair and never go back on your word. She explains to her that with this great gift comes great responsibility."
"The young girl finally gets out of the little tiny town they live in and says I'm going to go to Nashville make it as a big star. She goes but she has to compromise her values a little bit and break these rules. She finally climbs the ladder of success but breaks these three rules and then loses her voice and then has to redeem herself and find another way to sing without this great gift--and she does."
"Ella dies during this and we see her again as one of the angels--and we realize that she has been all of the time--and she sends the voice back down. This is where the water works come in."
"It's pretty uplifting and it's light-hearted and great if you like country music. It's really musically driven."
Look for the film in limited release--Dallas, Houston, Nashville, and Oklahoma City. Dean Cain plays the director of one of the music videos in the film.

Video interview: Katrina Elam and Dean Cain talk about Pure Country 2: The Gift
We had planned to interview Katrina Elam and George Strait about their new movie Pure Country 2: The Gift on Tuesday while they were in town on a promotional tour. Unfortunately, Strait had to cancel his Dallas visit at the last minute — unfortunate, but not tragic, given that Dean Cain (the film's co-screenwriter and a bit player in the film) stepped in to fill the interview void.
As for Elam, the film's songstress star — she shined brightly even without the King of Country in the room.
Pure Country 2 was directed by Dean's father, Christopher Cain, and the two collaborated on the screenplay, which involves the rise to fame of (you guessed it) a young country music chanteuse with a remarkable set of pipes, the kind of voice that is capable of lifting the spirits and raising the rafters without even trying.
Given that Bobbie, the main character in the film, moves from a small town to big city Nashville to make her mark as a performer, comparisons with Elam's own real life story are unavoidable, as she acknowledges in our interview.
Pure Country 2: The Gift opens a four-city limited engagement starting Friday, with one of those cities being Dallas. Depending on how the film performs, it may or may not expand to other markets. Check back on Friday for our movie review.
Since the camera crew wisely optimized their audio for the responses of the talent, my voice is a little hard to hear, so I'm including my questions (in the order asked) here:
1. So, Katrina, this is your first feature film acting experience, and you play the lead. Was it easier or harder than you expected it to be?
2. Dean, what was it like collaborating with your Dad (Christopher Cain) on the writing?
3. Katrina, how much of the story in the film reflects your real life experiences?
4. And how did you get the role?
5. Dean, how'd you come up with the idea for The Rising Sons? (a Nashville sushi house band featured in the film)
6. How did an Aussie (Travis Fimmel) end up getting get cast as Bobbie's love interest, Dale?
